Well not me but my gorgeous 3 year old Lakeland terrier Twig. Here’s a photo of her:
This is a new experience for her and me! I would like to share our journey of discovery and wonder. I would also like to share how I made space for this magical event in our lives!
Inspiration:
Don’t you think any new venture starts with inspiration?
…… Well in August whilst Sitting in a beautiful old hotel: Hazelwood House at Gara Bridge in South Devon under a Victorian wrought iron veranda heavily laden with wisteria I read something that touched a chord inside me…Angela one of the owners said
“ What I have learned is the miracle of what can happen when you haven’t got a goal. The aim is the goal-less goal, forever revealing itself and changing. The challenge is to keep an empty space for this which is to be revealed.”
This resonated so strongly for me as did Hazelwood House. http://www.hazelwoodhouse.com/
Slowly but surely I began to change my natural life coaching ways of creating goals with purpose and clarity! Now I sought to create space to allow amazing things to happen and they did!
I created time to think….
How could I be even more authentic, give more to others but not compromise my ongoing business commitments and family balance?
Starting from the perspective of my core values really helped me get some simple new ideas. Not targets, duties, responsibilities or progressions but expressions of love, togetherness, community and sharing. These ideas were unformed, floating, waiting for the right time! There were lots but they were allowed to surface:
One seemingly simple one was to see if our dog could have puppies. I had been thinking about this for some time, with the encouragement of a neighbour with a male Lakeland terrier! But I was too busy and had past experience of the chaos puppies can create! Now I allowed the thought freedom to be fully heard:
(Using the Disney technique to evaluate the idea)
The realist pragmatist asked:
How would we achieve this result?
What may have to change for this to happen?
The Critic asked:
What might be difficult?
How much energy and commitment is needed?
The Dreamer asked:
What is your vision?
What joy will this bring?
What will this fulfil?
Firstly the magic of seeing a dog give birth and have a litter of puppies would be amazing for us all and fulfil a natural part of the life cycle for Twig. How awe-inspiring is birth and to be witness to this natural process seemed truly magical.
We had an agreeable and very appropriate father down the road – couldn’t be easier! All we had to do was wait for Twig to come into season and Moley came bounding up! Moley is a very dapper Lakeland terrier, with a short coat and long legs! They hit it off and bingo – all we had to do was wait and see!
So many of my friends and family have great experience of whelping (the correct term!) and are willing to share their knowledge. This heart-warming topic brings a twinkle into everyone’s eyes!
